3DSimED Support for Forza Horizon 5

Recommended Posts

I know DMN has stated that model postings will be on hold until 3DSimED3 releases official support for Forza Horizon 5, has there been any words on when this support will become available? Is there a way to currently process FH5 content until then? Thanks.

I apologize if this is not the correct topic location, tried searching but not too familiar with the forum.

Unfortunately, we don't know when the support will be. You can try to contact the author of 3DSimED and ask him this question, may be he reply to you.

We don't want to extract these models now, because generally we post only original archives from the game, and the users import them by myself.

In case of FH5, because 3DSimED doesn't import the .carbin file and display a lot of warning messages when you try to import the .modelbin files, we publish the models in converted version, in .fbx (models) / .png (textures) formats.

I understand that may be more convenient for some users, but this is inconvenient for us - we don't have so much time to work on it, and sometimes we just don't want to do it.

I'm waiting for the FH5 support too, I tried to contact the author, but he didn't reply me. I think it's because I sent the message to the wrong address.

@DARKSIDEOPG Are you able to tell how the FH5 .modelbin's can be converted into .fbx? Is it through 3Dsimed or another program? Sorry if this is not the correct spot to ask.

@DARKSIDEOPG I can get some to import. I assume this is a case of import/export every piece individually? If so, is there anyway to batch import/export the entire file list?

I saw some more were posted by @DMN today without the message about waiting for 3DsimED to be updated to fix the material UV error. Was wondering if any workaround was discovered to get good UVs for now?

If needed I could help out with converting them over since it is quite an annoying process.
Also quick question, is there a way to export all opened files from 3dsimed? Currently I've been exporting them individually into obj and then using the Blender 2.8 addon to import all of the OBJs at once.

I would apricieate very much the original FH5 files, I have been dealing with these files and yes it take more time to convert but 95% of the conversions works for me.

Except the door hinges that are deformed, I'm not sure if it is a problem from the importer or the original FH5 model.

@bacarlitos Which cars have bad hinges?

As for original files... I have downloaded a steam (InsaneRamzes) torrent (not the whole thing just cars and textures as I need). So far it's the only way to get the files, I checked my own game which is Windows Store version and ... I could only trace a symbolic link down to a 110gb file which I *think* might be a virtual drive/image, but since I play the game I don't want to be messing with it right now.

The reason I'm trying to get into a windows store version is because I'm trying to extract the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. There is also a 2019 GT3 RS with also a forza edition. In the files there are only 2016 GT3 and 2x2018 GT3 so I'm figuring someone slipped somewhere but just want to double check against windows store version because I read somewhere the steam version is missing some cars (unconfirmed).

Update: I found what I was looking for - the widebody GT2. It's in a file called POR_Raymond_17.zip go figure.

For everyone else - my work flow is this:

1) Extract files to directory, copy directory to FH4 (cars directory) - FH5 has new materials file format as well as .carbin, but .modelbins are still fine and thus can read FH4 materials. Just some materials will be missing on import.

2) Have 3dsimed open on one side, .modelbin folder next to it. Drag and drop files from a folder at a time - you'll see import option popup choose FH4. Load a folder full of models (eg /scene/exterior/bumperf)

3) I resize x100 because FBX export units is in CM but 3dsimed exports in Metres. I know confusing but trust me its the only way to keep proper scale. So I have created a keyboard shortcut to open the resize model box (ctrl-r) within the program options. Also I create a keyboard shortcut to export the model (I use ctrl-d)

4) Install Macro recorder and have it record you doing(typing):

ctr-r (for open resize box), 100 tab 100 tab 100 enter enter ctrl-d enter enter (export and save) ctrl-f4 (closes tab)

- I have set the macro to alt-z to run, so it becomes: drag drop model onto 3dsimed, choose fh4 import, hold down enter button till it loads, (repeat for rest of modelbins in folder), then keep smashing alt-z till all the tabs clear, rinse and repeat for rest of folders.

The first time you run 3dsimed and import models you should do the first resize and export manually to set the export directory. All further models will be saved into that directory.

Once you get the hang of it it will be fast.

I've found that the Mercedes Project one has deformed lower door hinges, as well as the McLaren 650S_15 Have not explored other cars yet.

Just checked the FBX files in Blender for both - not seeing any distortion. Perhaps its a max thing? I'll check Max later. But I think I know what you are talking about. Some vertices seem to be way out of place right?

Yes they are twisted in a weird way

As a side note the twisted deformation is from the original file with current 3dSimed, maybe it is a import issue or it could be because a bone deformation that is not being reading by 3dsimed.

OK I looked a bit harder and see what you mean now 🙂

Not sure where the problem is coming from, I don't think its bone deformation though. I think its just 3DSimed need updating.

I have noticed on some FH4 models the door hinge parts on the odd car have a  vertice or two way out of place. It could be just a numerical inaccuracy eg not enough decimal places. Could even be errors in the original files.

Hey guys, I'm completely 100% new to this stuff, and the people in this thread seem to be the only people on the internet that would be capable of explaining how to do this start to finish to a noob. It seems ridiculously complicated and confusing, but I'm willing to learn, and I'm interested in 3d modelling anyway so it could end up being a new passion for all I know.

So, could one of you please try explain this to me?

Basically, I want to start playing assetto corsa instead of FH5, as all I do is drift anyway and I prefer a more sim-feel. Assetto seems to rely on mods and people importing models n stuff, and I'd love if I could import my cars (and their liveries(textures)) from fh5 as I've a good few I'd miss if I had to rely on other peoples mods!

Thanks, sorry for being a complete noob (and late to the thread)
